  • Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible collagen stimulator that has been used safely in medicine for many years.

    Following injection, the liquid carrier is naturally absorbed by the body over the first few days. The PLLA particles remain beneath the skin, where they stimulate fibroblasts to produce new collagen over the following weeks and months.

    As collagen levels increase, the skin becomes firmer, stronger and more supportive, helping to restore facial structure and soften age-related volume loss.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Following treatment you should:

    • Massage the treated area using the 5-5-5 rule (five minutes, five times daily, for five days), unless advised otherwise by Dr Sultan.

    • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

    • Avoid excessive heat, saunas and steam rooms for 24–48 hours.

    • Avoid touching or massaging the treatment area other than instructed.

    • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours.

    • Protect your skin with SPF 50 every day.

    • Keep hydrated following treatment.

    Minor swelling immediately after treatment is expected and is largely due to the sterile water used to prepare the product.

  • Sculptra has an excellent safety profile when performed by an experienced medical practitioner.

    Common temporary side effects include:

    • Swelling

    • Bruising

    • Redness

    • Tenderness

    • Mild discomfort

    Less common risks include:

    • Small palpable nodules

    • Uneven collagen stimulation

    • Asymmetry

  • Prior to arrival

    Before treatment:

    • Attend without heavy makeup where possible.

    On arrival

    Dr Sultan will assess your facial anatomy, discuss your goals and determine the number of Sculptra vials required to achieve a balanced result.

    Following cleansing of the skin, the product is injected into carefully selected treatment areas using advanced injection techniques designed to maximise collagen stimulation whilst maintaining natural facial proportions.

    Treatment typically takes around 45–60 minutes.

    Results

    Immediately after treatment, temporary fullness is normal and will settle within a few days as the sterile water is absorbed.

    Your own collagen production gradually increases over the following weeks, with noticeable improvement usually developing between 6 and 12 weeks.

    Most patients require 2–4 treatment sessions, depending on age, collagen loss and treatment goals.

    Results can last up to two years or longer following a full treatment course.
